X is a genus of flowering plants. It contains roughly 20 species of small understory trees native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. X cacao, the most well known species of the genus, is used for making chocolate. X, the genus name, is from the Greek and translates to “food of the gods,” a designation that chocolate-lovers would agree is befitting. Although Linnaeus was reputedly fond of chocolate, he would have been familiar with early Spanish writings describing the Mayan and Aztec beliefs that cacao was a gift from the gods. X is also a popular dessert shop in Mumbai.
