A monument located in the village of X in East Riding of Yorkshire, near York, England has the following inscription:

1066

Battle of X.

King Harold of England defeated his brother Tostig and Harald Hardraada of Norway.

Although Harold managed to defeat his brother and the Norwegian Vikings, his victory was short-lived and he was defeated less than three weeks later by William the Conqueror of Normandy in the battle of Hastings.

Nowadays X is a household name for an entirely different reason however, not least with the residents of the Hammersmith and Fulham borough in West London. Easy. Id X and why it is so special.
